FOUR PAWS is one of the largest international animal protection charities in the world. Our objective is to create a world without animal suffering and our team helps animals every day to achieve this. FOUR PAWS protects animals by implementing effective campaigns and projects that provide short-term and long-term solutions for animals in need. Through this approach we have achieved many lasting improvements in animal protection since we were founded in 1988.
Our vision is a world where humans treat animals with respect, empathy and understanding.
Our mission is to be the strong, global and independent voice for animals under human control.
- Creating sustainable solutions for animals in need
- Touching hearts, changing consumer behaviour
- Driving legal changes
- Building powerful partnerships
FOUR PAWS’ projects provide direct assistance to animals in need. Our team rescues animals and rehomes them in our sanctuaries, where they can recover in a natural environment. At the same time, we aim to improve the political climate for animal welfare and prevent animal suffering in the future. Our rescue missions create stories and the rescued animals become ambassadors for change.
Bile bears, dancing bears, circus bears and other bears in private captivity suffer immensely. In FOUR PAWS’ sanctuaries many bears have found a new safe home for life where they can live a bear life.
Lions & Tigers
The appalling conditions which many captive big cats are forced to endure was the reason for FOUR PAWS to open our LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa. Here, rescued big cats are given a safe and natural environment where they can spend the rest of their lives.
Dogs & Cats
Stray dogs and cats roam the streets of many countries around the world, unloved and uncared for. FOUR PAWS’ Stray Animal Care projects are designed to successfully prevent disease and control the population by caring for and neutering stray animals.
In FOUR PAWS' Orangutan Academy, rescued orangutan orphans are looked after and prepared for their release back into the wild. In this project, the protection of the orangutan species is just as important an objective as the welfare of the animals.
Our campaigns are aimed at creating better living conditions for farm animals, wild animals in captivity, stray dogs and cats and companion animals. By changing attitudes towards animals, consumer behaviour and creating legal change, FOUR PAWS improves the lives of animals now and in the future.
FOUR PAWS receives no government funding. It is only with the help of our kind donors and supporters that we can help animals.
